CINEEUROPE ANNOUNCES BARCO AS OFFICIAL PROJECTION PARTNER 2024

The Award, to be accepted by Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister for Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco, will be presented at the CineEurope Awards Ceremony on Thursday 20 June at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain.

Moroccan cinema is currently experiencing a period of renewal and expansion, with many projects under development including the opening of a number of new cinemas. As a result, Morocco has been invited as the Guest Country of Honour to showcase its cinema sector at CineEurope.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ – MAY 2024: Jeffrey Forman, Senior Vice President, International Theatrical Sales, The Walt Disney Studios, has been named as the CineEurope 2024 recipient of the International Distributor of the Year Award. The Award will be presented as part of the CineEurope Awards Ceremony on Thursday 20 June at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain.

“We are so honored and excited to present this award to our good friend Jeff,” stated Andrew Sunshine, President of Film Expo Group. “Jeff has played such a key role at The Walt Disney Studios for over three decades, leading by example as our industry has gone through so many changes. His dedication and commitment to Disney is second to none and he proves it day in and day out. Jeff Forman could not be more deserving of this award and is the perfect executive to bestow this honor upon.”

As Senior Vice President of International Theatrical Sales, Jeffrey Forman oversees international distribution encompassing all territories outside of the U.S. and Canada for the studio’s film labels including Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures. In his current role, he works with the international teams, as well as both internal stakeholders and external partners, to successfully release and maximize the reach of all Disney theatrical releases to audiences globally. In addition, Forman oversees and coordinates the premium formats and technology aspects of the business as well as International Non-theatrical.

A seasoned and well-liked executive among his colleagues and clients, Forman has helped distribute every studio film the company has released since 1992, including both the original animated versions and live-action adaptations of The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. He has worked on every Marvel film, from The Avengers in 2012 through Deadpool & Wolverine opening this July, the entire Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, each Pixar film beginning with Toy Story through this summer’s Inside Out 2, and Avatar 2.

Among other milestones throughout the course of his illustrious career, Forman played an instrumental role in the global success of 26 of the 53 films that have surpassed the billion-dollar mark at the global box office and was pivotal to the integration of 20th Century Studios into the Disney portfolio. 

Forman became very familiar with the film industry at a young age as his father, Jerry, was a longtime executive with Pacific Theaters. His very first job in the business was working as an usher at the Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles at the age of 16. After a brief career in real estate law, Forman joined Disney in 1991 during the nascent stages of what would evolve into Buena Vista International. Forman was responsible for helping to set up and manage the Asia-Pacific region. In 1995, he relocated to Hong Kong to open the Disney theatrical offices throughout the region including Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, and India. He returned to Los Angeles in 1999 to continue running the APAC region and in 2010 was promoted and tasked with overseeing international distribution.

Forman graduated from UCLA with a BA in Economics, received a Master’s in Business Administration from USC, and holds a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Jennifer, and their two children Joshua and Jacqueline, who are both currently attending college.

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM & NEW JERSEY, USA – 13 MAY 2024: Nicolas Seydoux, Chairman of the French anti-piracy audiovisual association (ALPA) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Gaumont, France, has been named as the 2024 recipient of the CineEurope Icon Award, given in recognition of his career and accomplishments. The Award will be presented as part of the CineEurope Opening Ceremony on Monday 17 June at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain.

At the helm of Gaumont for over 50 years, Nicolas Seydoux’s unrivalled dedication to the film industry and relentless action against movie theft for 15 years as Chairman of ALPA makes him an absolutely emblematic figure in the industry.

He has shown an unparallelled commitment to the sector, promoting film culture through his writings, his public speeches, his philanthropic actions, and more recently with his memoirs “Le cinéma, 50 ans de passion” (“Cinema: 50 years of passion”).

The CineEurope Icon Award recognises Nicolas Seydoux’s exceptional career, his passion for cinema, and invaluable contribution to the French and international film industry. It will be presented by Boxoffice Pro.

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM & NEW JERSEY, USA – 6 MAY 2024: KINEPOLIS Group NV, the Belgian company operating 109 cinemas and 1,131 screens worldwide, has been named as the 2024 recipient of the CineEurope Milestone Award, given in recognition of its outstanding accomplishments within European cinema exhibition. The Award will be presented as part of the CineEurope Awards Ceremony on Thursday 20 June at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain.

Kinepolis Group, headed by CEO Eddy Duquenne, reported record results in 2023. Compared with 2022, revenue increased by 21.1 percent to €605.5 million, with EBITDAL increasing by 32.8 percent to €151.4 million. Net profit doubled to €56.1 million.

This strong revenue generation was driven by 20.6 percent more visitors compared to 2022, combined with an increase in sales per visitor, a direct result of Kinepolis’ substantial investments in premium concepts and film experiences.

The CineEurope Milestone Award recognises Kinepolis’ constant efforts to offer the best experience to cinema-goers and its achievements over the past 25 years.

BRUSSELS, NEW YORK – 11 APRIL 2024: CLARE BINNS, Managing Director of both Picturehouse Cinemas and its prize-winning distribution arm Picturehouse Entertainment, has been named as the 2024 recipient of the UNIC Achievement Award, given each year in recognition of outstanding dedication and service to European cinema exhibition. The Award will be presented as part of the CineEurope Awards Ceremony on Thursday 20 June at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain.

Clare Binns has for over 40 years dedicated her career to the cinema industry, with a particular passion for – and commitment to – bringing world cinema to local audiences.

From her start in the 1980s as a cinema usher, to projectionist, cinema manager and now Managing Director, Clare has constantly sought opportunities to enhance the cultural and social value of cinema and in recent years has successfully overseen the expansion of Picturehouse Cinemas, the company now operating 28 welcoming and innovative neighbourhood cinemas, somewhere you’re always likely to find Clare enjoying a film.

Her unparalleled dedication has been celebrated on numerous occasions: in 2009 she received the WFTV Contribution to the Medium Award, in 2010 she was ranked 70th in the Guardian Film Power 100 list and in 2015, as well as winning the Screen Awards Exhibition Achievement Award, Variety named her as one of the 25 individuals driving the London entertainment scene. Her continuous involvement in both the London Film Festival Industry Liaison Committee and the BAFTA Learning and Events Committee is further proof of her deep commitment to the industry.

NEW YORK, NY — Apollo Kino have been named as the 2024 recipient of the “International Exhibitor of the Year” award at CineEurope. The award will be presented as part of the CineEurope Awards Ceremony hosted by The Coca-Cola Company on Thursday, 20 June at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain. Accepting on behalf of Apollo Kino will be CEO Kadri Ärm.

Each year at CineEurope, the International Exhibitor Award is given to a cinema exhibitor whose accomplishments, new developments, growth, and market leadership make them the standard-bearer for the industry.
