NEW YORK, NY – Mei Lee Koh, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Screen Cinemas, Malaysia will receive the Exhibitor of the Year Award at the CineAsia Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 8 December at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.

“It gives us great pleasure to present the Exhibitor of the Year award to Golden Screen Cinemas,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “GSC’s innovations in the cinema experience have changed the movie-going culture in Malaysia and throughout Asia. They continue to be an industry leader and we congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.”

GSC is recognized for the introduction of many innovative and convenient facilities, amongst them the D-Box motion seats, Dolby Atmos technology, the GSC MobileApp that allows paper-less purchase of movie tickets and concession items anytime, anywhere, as well as the auto-gate for “ticketless” and hassle-free admission, hence positioning GSC brand as a premier cinema option.

Another innovative offering is the GSC Maxx, the large format screen for 2D and 3D digital halls. The larger-than-life GSC Maxx screen which is THX certified incorporates 4K projection, most optimal brightness 3D systems and fully digital sound processes by Dolby CP850 to provide the ultimate immersive experience to movie goers. The largest digital screen in Malaysia, GSC Maxx in GSC Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur, is 24-meter wide. Fitted with dual digital projectors, this hall offers the most optimal brightness for a large screen of its size.

GSC is Malaysia’s leading cinema chain with the biggest market share locally. From a humble beginning of 70 screens to its 306 screens in 33 locations across Malaysia, GSC has built three strong cinema brands, “Golden Screen Cinemas” (GSC), capturing the urban areas, “GSC Signature” for the upmarket and “GSC Lite” catering to the smaller towns. In Vietnam, GSC partnered Galaxy Studio in operating 43 screens in 7 locations. GSC is planning for the opening of its first 9-screen cinema in Cambodia in the first half of 2017.

Koh’s effort, together with her team, has resulted in GSC becoming the top cinema operator and is seen as the leader for the cinema industry in Malaysia. As a big fan of international and foreign films, Koh brought world cinema to the Malaysian shores through the introduction of foreign film festivals such as the French, Japanese and European Union film festivals, as well as the GSC International Screens. For her efforts and dedication, Koh was recognized by Celluloid Junkie, as one of the top 10 women CEO in the global cinema business in 2016.
